Whole Star Anise
They look like tiny dried starfish, but really taste of aniseed. Highly fragrant, they are commonly added during the cooking process before being removed before serving. Widely used in Chinese, Indian, Malay and Indonesian cuisine, they are also regularly found floating in a glass of mulled wine (or vin chaud).
