Product Description

  • Panko is a unique type of flaky breadcrumb most commonly associated with Japanese cuisine. The bread for panko is baked by passing an electrical current through the dough (a technique originally developed by the Japanese Army). This creates a crustless loaf which is subsequently grated to form the distinctive fine slivers of crumb. Awesome for breading (or crumbing) fish, chicken, shrimp, vegetables or cheese before frying, panko is a key ingredient in Japanese fried chicken (chicken katsu).

Preparation and Usage

  • Panko Breadcrumbs are a lot more airy and flaky than ordinary breadcrumbs. During frying they develop a delicious crunchy texture. Dip meat, fish or vegetables in beaten egg, then coat in Panko Breadcrumbs. Fry or deep fry in a wok or deep fat fryer.
